Oral Surgery
The diagnosis and management of disorders and diseases of the teeth and oral cavity. Including surgical problems such as difficult dental extractions, impacted wisdom teeth and jaw cysts. Oral medicine includes the management of ulcers, lumps and diseases of the mouth lining. Some patients may also require specialist treatment because of underlying medical problems.
Maxillofacial Surgery
Surgery of the jaws, face and neck. Including fractures of the jaw, cheekbone, orbit or nose and soft-tissue lacerations. Problems with the temporomandibular jaw joints (TMJ’s). Management of diseases or lumps in the salivary glands. Treatment of pre-malignant lesions, cancer of the mouth (oral oncology) and lumps in the neck. Facial skin lesions and aesthetic facial surgery including the correction of facial disproportion (orthognathic surgery).
